Getting started
How do I sign up?
PockyAPP is in open beta and sign-up is invite only for now. Write to reg@pokecio.com and we'll send you an invite code to create your account on pokecio.com right in the app.
Is PockyAPP free?
Yes. PockyAPP is free and ad-free. If you like it, you can support development on Ko-fi.
How old do I need to be?
PockyAPP is for people aged 15 and over. If you find out a younger child created an account, write to privacy@pokecio.com and we'll close it along with all its data.
What does it run on?
Android 9 and newer (the current version is 0.10.4 - BETA), computers with Windows 10 and 11, and the browser at app.pokecio.com. Apps for iPhone and Mac are in the works and Linux is planned for later.
Why isn't it on Google Play?
We publish the app ourselves, without middlemen. Download it from pokecio.com and it will offer new versions on its own. It's signed with our key, so it won't install an update from anyone else.
Using it
Can I use PockyAPP in Element too?
Yes. PockyAPP speaks the Matrix protocol, so you can sign in to pokecio.com in Element and other Matrix apps, and you can write to people on other servers too. Overview of Matrix apps →
What is Timeline?
A board of posts from the chats and channels you follow. Add photos, react and comment. It is in alpha and Android-only for now, but people in Element see the posts too.
Will others see where I am?
Only if you send them your location, and only as precisely as you choose. You can stop live location any time and it ends on its own after the time you picked.
How do I lock the app?
Turn on the app lock in settings: a six-digit PIN, fingerprint or face. You also choose when the app should lock.
Privacy and safety
What is end-to-end encryption, and can I trust it?
A message is locked on your phone and unlocked only on the recipient's phone. The server carries a locked box without the key, so neither it nor we can see the content. It does see who chats with whom and when. The app is in beta and has not had an independent audit. Encryption and safety →
What does the server know about me?
It sees who writes to whom, when and how big the messages are, plus names and profile photos. In encrypted chats it doesn't see text, photos, voice notes, files or location. Privacy →
What if I lose my phone?
Sign in on another device, sign out the lost phone in My devices and change your password. With a key backup you'll get your old encrypted messages back too.
How do I delete my account?
You can delete your account right in the app. If that doesn't work, write to privacy@pokecio.com.
Troubleshooting
Notifications don't arrive, what now?
Check that PockyAPP is allowed to send notifications and that your phone doesn't put it to sleep to save battery (especially Samsung and Xiaomi).
A message didn't send.
A message that failed to send stays in the chat and you can choose Try again or Cancel. Messages waiting after a network outage are sent on their own.
