Privacy

What the app does with your data, what it doesn't, and where you can check.

What we don't do

What the server sees and what it doesn't

Messages stay between the people in the conversation. The server still needs to know a little to be able to deliver them.

Stays between you

Only people in the conversation can read it

  • Message text, replies, edits and reactions
  • Photos, videos, voice messages and files
  • Location and live location coordinates
  • The key backup, locked with your recovery key

The server sees it

Without it messages couldn't be delivered

  • Who talks to whom, when, and how big the messages are
  • Typing, read and online status
  • Names, profile pictures, group names and descriptions
  • Your status, like “💻 At work”
  • That you're sharing live location and until when, not where you are

Encryption, without the jargon

Picture sending a letter in a locked box. Only the person you're writing to has the key. That's how encrypted chats in PockyAPP work.

  1. You

    Locked on your phone

The message is locked right on your phone, before it leaves.

  2. Server

    Has no key

It delivers the locked box but only sees scrambled characters. Neither it nor we can open it.

  3. Your friend

    Unlocked with the key

Their phone has the key, opens the box and shows the message.
